There’s so much focus on what to pack for yourself when preparing for birth.
But something I didn’t fully think about the first time… was what my baby would touch.
Their skin is brand new. Sensitive. Absorbing everything.
And those first few hours matter more than we realise.
I remember after my baby was born, the midwife placed a hat on their head, wiped and wrapped them in a towel, then a blanket. I didn’t think anything of it in that moment, until later when I noticed his poor skin reacting. Red, irritated blotches appeared, which could have been down to the harsher materials, or the detergents they were washed in. And feeling them, they definitely didn’t feel like organic cotton washed in super gentle, toxin-free detergents.
